What are some tips to help with exercising in winter weather?

Winter weather is a challenge we are hearing from our PreventScripts enrolled patients who have picked "Move More" as their "My Plan" for this week and month.   We are hitting the end of January here, and it is just downright cold.  We have put together a few tips and tricks here to help you crush your movement goals while we are waiting out the rest of winter. My personal favorite to add to your winter layers if you don't have a baklava is easy to find on Amazon here. There are two reasons this one is my favorite.  First, is it is right at 11$. The second reason is they have white which we highly recommend for visibility.  Stay safe out there! 

  1. Dress in layers to maintain body temperature
  2. Protect face, hands and feet with warm gear
  3. Stay hydrated
  4. Avoid overexertion in extreme cold
  5. Warm up with indoor exercises before heading outside
  6. Choose routes with proper traction and visibility
  7. Avoid strenuous activities during extreme weather conditions.
